Pochettino reveals the replacement for Armando Broja

Chelsea are left short in the striking department, following Armando Broja’s loan move to Fulham until the end of the season.

It was a surprise that Chelsea let Broja leave on loan, without signing a new striker.

Nicolas Jackson is back from the AFCON, and is the only recognised striker in the Chelsea team.

However, Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino has named 18-year-old striker Deivid Washington as Broja’s replacement.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Wolves, Pochettino named Deivid Washington as an option in the striking role.

Asked why Chelsea let Broja leave, Pochettino said: “It is a very good opportunity for him to play maybe more. It’s a good move for him and he can take the opportunity to play more.

“It is important to recover Christoph [Nkunku] and it is important for Nico Jackson to arrive. Also, sometimes we forget, but Deivid Washington is here with us. The options we have up front are enough.”

Who is Deivid Washington?

The 18-year-old joined Chelsea from Brazilian side Santos in a deal worth £17.2million last summer but has made just two senior appearances this season. He’s one for the future, but we’d see if he’d get some game time before the end of the season.
