Why Chelsea owner Todd Boehly may shun move for Victor Osimhen

It’s no secret that Chelsea are keen on signing a world-class striker in the summer with Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino bemoaning the team’s inability to take their chances.

Chelsea haven’t had a prolific goalscorer since the days of Diego Costa. The Brazilian/Spanish striker is the last Chelsea player to score 20 goals in the Premier League and that was back in the 2016-17 campaign, which was also the last time the Blues won the Premier League.

One player that has been heavily linked with a summer move to Chelsea is Napoli striker and Nigerian international Victor Osimhen.

The 25-year-old has a release clause in his contract set at around £112m. The Nigeria international has already indicated that he will be leaving Napoli in the summer.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea owner Todd Boehly might be reluctant to sign Osimhen in the summer due to his wage demands.

It is believed Osimhen’s wage demands are a lot higher than the kind of level that Boehly is prepared to pay.

Since buying the club, Boehly has reduced Chelsea’s wage bill. The American prefers to look at younger players who are at the earlier stages of their career and will not cost as much in terms of salary.
