BBC pundit, Chris Sutton has said that Chelsea may have to go on another spending spree after their defeat to Liverpool.
The Blues were outclassed by a determined Liverpool side at Anfield, shipping in four goals, and replying with just one on the night.
Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominic Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz were all on target for Liverpool, who kept Chelsea quiet for most of the encounter.
Chelsea spent close to half-a-billion pounds on signing new players during the last transfer window, but they looked nothing like it against Jurgen Klopp’s side, and Sutton has now stated that the spending may have to continue, going by what he saw.
“Liverpool have been red hot and played with such intensity, looking at Chelsea you would probably think they would have to spend half a billion pounds on the team,” Sutton said, while watching the game on BBC Radio 5 Live.
“In fairness it is easy to criticise Chelsea, but Liverpool’s press has been so good – the longer the [match] has gone on Chelsea have lacked belief. That is one of the best Liverpool performances I have seen this season.”
On Cole Palmer, the former Chelsea star added: “Cole Palmer has been very quiet this evening.
“He has not been able to influence the game how he would have liked.”
