Chelsea have now backed out of a deal to sign Lille striker Jonathan David.

Chelsea have been linked with a number of strikers, and Jonathan has been one of the names to have been mentioned.

Lille were believed to be demanding £51m for the 24-year-old – a deal that didn’t interest Chelsea, as the Blues will pay double of that for main target Victor Osimhen.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Chelsea have backed out of the deal.

He said on X: “Jonathan David won’t leave Lille in the final days of the January transfer window. Lille want to keep their best players in January despite interest from England, Spain, Italy — David is staying.

“He’s gonna be one to watch in summer as current deal expires in June 2025.”

Chelsea will most likely end the January transfer window without a signing.
