Chelsea have not closed off their interest in signing Michael Olise from Crystal Palace, and that’s according to journalist, Simon Phillips.
Sometime last week, reports filtered through some media platforms in the UK, that the 22-year-old has now decided to join Manchester United over Chelsea, who previously made an attempt to get him over to Stamford Bridge last summer.
The Blues appeared to have triggered Olise’s release clause with Palace, before the deal fell through in the last minute after the club threatened to take action over the manner of approach from Chelsea.
Chelsea ended up signing a similar player in Cole Palmer, who has since proven that they made a great decision to sign him from Manchester City.
Phillips, while reacting to reports that Olise has now decided against joining Chelsea, took to ‘X’ to write that there was no truth to any of it.
He said: “Michael Olise completely open to joining Chelsea (his brother plays here). Blues put a lot of groundwork in on this already.
“Other clubs keen, but no decisions even close from him and his reps yet. Chelsea all in for Olise.”
Chelsea may actually have to wait until later in the summer to make another move for Olise, since the Frenchman has already signed a contract extension with Palace, and it will definitely cost way more to sign him now than the £35m fee that was rumoured to be his release clause last summer.
