Revealed: Why Gallagher’s contract talks have stalled

Conor Gallagher has been one of Chelsea’s most-outstanding players this season.

The 23-year-old has improved his game so much that he is now one of the first names in Mauricio Pochettino’s starting XI for every game.

However, despite his hard work and obvious importance to the project at Stamford Bridge, Gallagher is still expected to be sold in the near future, per many reports.

The England international is said to be high-up on Chelsea’s list of players to be sold for some profit.

The Chelsea hierarchy have spent so much on transfers in recent seasons, and are now looking to balance the books by offloading some of their own stars.

Gallagher is reportedly valued at £50m, with Premier League side, Tottenham said to be preparing a bid for the midfielder.

Some Chelsea fans have not been pleased with the news that one of the better-performing players at Stamford Bridge this season is on the verge of being sold, but according to journalist, Ben Jacobs, the club have actually opened talks in a bid to extend Gallagher’s contract, which is set to expire next year.

The challenge, however, is that talks have not progressed because the Chelsea star is asking for more than the club is willing to offer him in terms of wages.

Gallagher, who currently pockets £50k per week, is demanding a 200% increment to sign the dotted lines, but Chelsea are not willing to pay him that much.

With the January transfer window set to end in just a few days, we doubt Gallagher will still be sold this month, but unless things change on the contract negotiation table, we expect that he will be leaving Stamford Bridge later in the summer.
