Chelsea have booked a place at Wembley after beating Middlesbrough 6-1 (6-2 aggregate) to qualify for the final of the Carabao Cup.

The Blues entered the game trailing Boro 1-0 from the first leg at the Riverside stadium two weeks ago, but the Blues responded in an emphatic manner on Tuesday night, scoring four first-half goals in front of a lively Stamford Bridge crowd.

A Jonny Howson own goal put Chelsea ahead after 15 minutes of play, before goals from Enzo Fernandez, Axel Disasi, and Cole Palmer gave the hosts a four-goal cushion as they entered the break.

The second half started a lot slower for Chelsea, who didn’t score another goal until the 77th minute, thanks to Cole Palmer, who stroked in a pass from Conor Gallagher to make it 5-0 for the Blues.

Noni Madueke’s 81st minute deflected shot added a gloss on the scoreline for Chelsea, who were now six goals to the good, before Morgan Rogers pulled one back for Boro with just a few minutes to go.

Chelsea will now prepare to take on Aston Villa in the FA Cup fourth round on Friday, as they wait to find out who their opponents will be in the Carabao Cup final on February 28, with Liverpool and Fulham set to play the return leg of the other semi-final fixture on Wednesday.
