Chelsea have spent a fortune signing new players since the Todd Boehly era started.

And to be fair, fans have seen some really great talent arrive at the club these past few seasons, except that there hasn’t been much of an improvement in the club’s performances, especially in the goals department.

Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja have led the line for Mauricio Pochettino’s side this season, and while the duo haven’t particularly done badly, there is still a need for a lethal number nine to come into the club if the Blues are to retain any hopes of returning to the top of English football soon.

Names like Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen have been linked with a transfer to Chelsea for weeks now, even though the chances of any of them actually signing for the club right now are very slim, as they are both very important to their respective clubs.

However, there seems to be an air of confidence at Stamford Bridge regarding the abilities of Brentford’s Toney, who journalist, Simon Phillips has now claimed is admired by some at the West London club.

He wrote on his Substack: “Ivan Toney is still on Chelsea’s striker shortlist, and there are people within the club who still really like him and believe he should be our new permanent striker.

“Toney has basically been saying that he would leave Brentford this month if a top club came in and paid the valuation. But he is expected to stay at his club until the summer due to his club completely overvaluing him right now.

“It was no surprise to see Toney have a great classic number 9 performance on his return to football on Saturday whilst also getting on the scoresheet.”

Like Phillips stated, Toney has made it clear he is willing to leave Brentford if the right opportunity were to present itself. The problem however, is with his hefty price tag of £100m.
