Diego Moreira seems to have a very interesting view of his coach at Chelsea, Mauricio Pochettino, after claiming that the 51-year-old ‘breathes football’.

The 19-year-old has spent the last six months on loan with French side, Lyon, following his summer move to Chelsea.

Moreira joined the Blues from Portuguese club, Benfica last summer, taking part in pre-season engagements before he left to further develop his game in France.

During pre-season, the winger took time to get to know Pochettino, and some of his new teammates at Stamford Bridge, including the likes of Malo Gusto and Christopher Nkunku, who he now says he’s particularly maintained contact with despite being away.

Discussing his relationships with both Pochettino and his Chelsea teammates, Moreira said a chat with DH: “He is close to his players, gives a lot of good advice and really breathes football.

“I also stayed in contact with several players. I had time to build some links, especially with French speakers like Christopher Nkunku and Malo Gusto. Then, I obviously met Romeo Lavia.”

French journalist, Fabrice Hawkins recently reported that Moreira’s loan spell with Lyon has been terminated by the Ligue One club because they haven’t been impressed with his performance so far. It is now expected that the former Benfica man will return to Stamford Bridge, where he’ll likely spend the remainder of the 2023-24 campaign.
