Like Cole Palmer, Chelsea are targeting another Man City outcast

Chelsea snapped up Cole Palmer from Manchester City last summer, and the 21-year-old has been Chelsea’s best signing under Todd Boehly’s reign.

According to reports by Simon Phillips, Chelsea are now interested in signing Manchester City fullback Sergio Gomez.

Writing in his Substack column (via Sportsmole.co.uk), Phillips reported that the Spaniard was one of a number of options that the Blues are looking at to strengthen the left-hand side of defence this January.

With Ian Maatsen out on loan, Chelsea do not really have cover on the left. Levi Colwill is a natural centre-back, Marc Cucurella is out injured and Ben Chilwell only just returned from a long injury layoff.

Gomez has had limited game time this season, with only four starts in all competitions; two of which came in the Champions League group games against Red Star Belgrade.

Gomez, 23, started in Man City’s 1-0 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup back in September (where he was deployed as a right winger), as well as the FA Cup tie against Huddersfield Town earlier this month.

It’s yet to be seen if Chelsea would really make this move.
