Football pundit, Micah Richards has voiced his concern regarding Chelsea’s inconsistencies this season.
The Blues are currently 10th in the Premier League after 20 games, with 12 massive points separating them from fourth-placed Arsenal.
On top of that, Mauricio Pochettino’s side suffered a rather surprising 1-0 defeat when they met Middlesbrough in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final fixture at the Riverside stadium on Tuesday.
BBC pundit, Chris Sutton recently claimed that Chelsea haven’t really made any progress this season, and the only reason people think they have is because of how horrible they were in the last campaign, and former Manchester City defender, Richards appears to now be saying the same thing.
During a recent episode of the Rest Is Football podcast, Richards said: “What is going on at Chelsea guys? Because we do all our analysis and we watch clip after clip and some days they look really good and then some days you are thinking they are weak at the back, conceding sloppy goals and then they are just not putting the ball on the back of the net.”
Pochettino has not been able to work with a fully-fit squad since he arrived at Stamford Bridge, so one could argue that some of the issues the team has faced under him are not exactly his fault, but then again, we have watched Chelsea play this season a lot, and can say that sometimes, they just seem to lack purpose and drive in the way they approach games.
Pochettino needs to start figuring things out soon, because unless results consistently improve, it’s only a matter of time before the Argentine will be given his marching orders from Stamford Bridge, like the ones before him.
