Manchester United legend, Rio Ferdinand has no doubts that Christopher Nkunku will turn out to be a great buy for Chelsea despite his injury problems.
Nkunku completed a £52m transfer to Chelsea over the summer, having caught the eye while with RB Leipzig in the German Bundesliga.
The 26-year-old has however had very few opportunities to show Chelsea fans what he is capable of, having played just four games since the start of the season.
A knee injury picked up during pre-season ruled out the Frenchman for months, before he finally made his competitive debut for the Blues against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup quarter-final last month.
After three more games, Nkunku was confirmed to have picked up a hip problem, which is set to keep him out for a few games, including Chelsea’s League Cup semi-final clash against Middlesbrough on Tuesday night.
Ferdinand is one of those who have seen the versatile forward in action before his move to Chelsea, and he has now stated that he is very confident the attacker will do well for the Blues.
“Nkunku will come good. I watched him play a lot in the Champions League. Proper player,” Ferdinand told FIVE’s YouTube channel.
Nkunku’s latest injury is believed to be a very minor one that shouldn’t keep him on the sidelines for very long, with some outlets reporting that he could be back in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad at the weekend when Chelsea take on Fulham in the Premier League.
