Mauricio Pochettino has shared the latest on his players’ fitness ahead of Tuesday’s Carabao Cup semi-final with Middlesbrough.
The Blues will take on Michael Carrick’s men away from home in the first leg of the competition, as they hope to make it to the final later this year.
Chelsea were without some of their key players in their 4-0 win against Preston North End over the weekend, and Pochettino has now stated that his squad for Tuesday will be unchanged from the last time.
“[Chelsea are going to] have the same squad tomorrow. Nothing new,” the coach said when asked to give a team news update ahead of the Middlesbrough game.
On Christopher Nkunku, who missed the FA Cup tie at the weekend, he added: “He’s not available for tomorrow. We have to be cautious.
“Hope it’s not a long period. He is not training, he is recovering. It’s not a big issue.
“It’s not related to the previous injury, it’s a different problem. Small issue in a hip.”
Pochettino also shared the latest on goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez, adding in his interview: “We saw him, he came from a scan. We need to see the doctors and assess. Today we will have a clear idea.
“No, no, no [surgery]. It’s the pace of the evolution and how he can improve from doing treatment to starting on the pitch.”
From the comments of the Chelsea manager, fans can expect not to see the likes of Ben Chilwell, Benoit Badiashile, Romeo Lavia, and Marc Cucurella in the squad for Tuesday’s meeting with Boro.
