Preston boss sends message to his players ahead of Chelsea clash

Preston North End manager, Ryan Lowe has urged his players to immerse themselves into the game, and enjoy it when they face Chelsea in the FA Cup third round later on Saturday.

The two clubs will meet for the first time since 2002 this weekend, and Lowe is very eager to see how his side fares against top-tier opposition.

The Blues go into the game off the back of consecutive Premier League wins against Crystal Palace and Luton, while Preston sit 14th on the Championship table after defeat to Sunderland on New Year’s day, but Lowe is hopeful the Lilywhites can take a scalp for Mauricio Pochettino’s men when they meet.

“You look at the upsets up and down the country in the FA Cup; there’s loads of upsets,” he said, as quoted by pnefc.net.

“But you have to do that, you have to believe you’re going there to perform.

“We know the gulf in quality is massive, but we’ve got to be a little bit proud and see what they can give us and go toe to toe.

“There’s going to be certain elements of the game where we can’t do that but [we have to] enjoy the moment. Enjoy being up against top-quality international, world-class footballers. That’s my message to the players.

“We’ll put the gameplan together collectively and all the families are going to be there. A lot of our fans are going to be there, so I want them to remember these days because they can go in the memory bank – not just for the players but for the fans also.”
