Cole Palmer has been selected for the ‘bursting onto the scene’ award for 2023 by football pundit, Alan Shearer after impressing for Chelsea so far this season.

Palmer joined the Blues for £42m over the summer, with many questioning the decision to sign a player that couldn’t play regularly under Pep Guardiola. But the 21-year-old has made a mockery of his doubters by starting all but one game for the Blues since his arrival at the club, while scoring eight goals across all competitions.

Palmer also has six assists for Chelsea, and it has all come amid a difficult season for Mauricio Pochettino’s side overall.

The attacker was recently named ahead of Arsenal’s Declan Rice on the CIES Football Observatory’s latest list of the 100 most valuable football players, and Shearer has now admitted that he’s been very impressed by his talent.

The Newcastle legend said on the Rest Is Football podcast: “I’m going to go with Cole Palmer. I think people knew he was good, one or two were surprised he was let go, but I think the way he has fitted into that Chelsea team and they have been struggling and he’s the one to shine most weeks. Without him they would be in a bigger mess than what they are now. So I’m going to say Cole Palmer.”
