Ian Maatsen has reportedly agreed personal terms to join Borussia Dortmund this January, according to Sky journalist, Patrick Berger.

Maatsen has found regular football very difficult to come by under Mauricio Pochettino, having made just one start this season.

The 21-year-old came close to joining Burnley last summer, with Chelsea actually accepting a bid from the newly-promoted club, only for him to turn down the move last-minute.

It is believed that Maatsen was hoping he would be able to play regularly after the impressive pre-season he enjoyed with the Blues, but that hasn’t been the case.

Dortmund are the most keen on signing the Dutchman, per many reports, and it appears the feeling is mutual, according to Berger.

Taking to ‘X’ to share an update on the situation of the player, he said: “Ian Maatsen still only wants to go to Dortmund and has informed Chelsea of his wish. According to Sky information, the left-back agrees with Borussia Dortmund.

“Everything depends on the Blues, who actually want an obligation to buy. Negotiations are ongoing…”

Chelsea are willing to sell Maatsen this month, as they are looking to raise some funds to bring in a player or two of their own after the heavy spending they committed to in the last three transfer windows.
