Chelsea have reportedly joined the race for Benfica youngster, Antonio Silva.

The Blues are looking to strengthen their squad this January, with the defence a major area of concern.

A number of targets have been linked with Chelsea so far, including Jean-Clair Todibo, who plays for Nice, and 20-year-old Silva, who currently plays for Benfica.

The Sun claims that Manchester United are also keen on getting the young defender, as they aim to offload Raphael Varane.

Benfica will not settle for a small fee if they are to part ways with Silva, though, with some reports pegging his asking price at £87m.

We’re not sure Chelsea will want to pay that much for any player right now, considering they have already spent a humongous amount of money on transfers in the last three windows.

If anything, the Blues are prioritising signing a striker this month, and if a defender will come in, we certainly don’t think it would be someone who would cost the club so much money.
