Chelsea may be without Ian Maatsen by the time the January transfer window comes to an end, according to a new report by the Telegraph.
Maatsen has barely played games for Chelsea this season, despite the absences of Ben Chilwell and Marc Cucurella for extended periods. Even when the left-back has played, he has often been deployed in an entirely different position by Mauricio Pochettino.
Borussia Dortmund are said to be interested in signing the 21-year-old, although it isn’t yet clear what form the deal will carry.
While Chelsea will want to sell Maatsen permanently, Dortmund may prefer a loan deal for financial reasons.
It is also believed that the Dutchman will be keen on moving to a new club this month, having played very little so far this season, and with the 2024 European Championship coming up later soon.
If Maatsen leaves, Chelsea may be forced to sign a new left-back, with Chilwell’s injury record well documented, and Marc Cucurella also out.
