Should Chelsea keep 39-year-old Thiago Silva?

Thiago Silva is one player that has done very well at Chelsea since he joined the club from Paris Saint-Germain about four years ago.

The Brazilian has been a regular presence for teams under all the coaches he played for since then, including Thomas Tuchel, Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, and now, Mauricio Pochettino.

At 39 years, age is no longer on Silva’s side, and there have been many reports suggesting that the defender may no longer have a future at Chelsea, with his current deal expiring at the end of the campaign.

That could yet change though, as Mail Online now claims that the centre back may reconsider his stance on playing at Chelsea beyond this season due to the involvement of his children at the Chelsea academy.

Silva’s experience will no doubt be very crucial for Chelsea if the report is true, seeing as the team is full of very young players, who haven’t exactly played at a top level before. Pochettino himself will also find him very useful, with his team still missing some of their key men at the back.

If Chelsea do decide to extend the veteran’s contact though, it will likely come in the form of another one year deal, which would still leave the door open for an exit in the near future.

The big question is: should Chelsea still be relying on Silva who will be 40 this year?

Indeed, Thiago have been a brilliant defender For our club. And I think if he would like to get another contract I can insist our club management to consider him with another year because though he’s older as can see he has been a key defender in defense
