Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that Chelsea will try to go after players with some experience in the January transfer window, as he aims to increase the average age of his starting XI.

Chelsea fielded their youngest ever starting XI in the 2-1 victory against Crystal Palace last Wednesday, with an average age of the team standing at 23 years and 21 days, but Pochettino believes there may be a need for more experience in his side.

“With the players we have, we can have a very good season,” Pochettino said at a press conference ahead of his side’s 3-2 win over Luton Town.

“Against Crystal Palace, the starting XI of Chelsea was our youngest ever (in the Premier League) and that is a thing that only with time we can turn into a good result.

“There is talent but that is not enough. It is also about mentality and experience together. With time, we will arrive at the level where we can compete for big things.”
