Noni Madueke has been on the fringes this season – mostly due to injury and partly that he was being benched by Mauricio Pochettino when available.

Earlier this month, Pochettino slammed Madueke for not playing at a top level in training, telling the young winger to prove himself in training if he wants to get into the team.

Pochettino said: “Noni is in a position where there’s massive competition, too many players… he needs to compete and raise his level.

“The competition here is serious. We need top level in training to play on regular basis.”

With two goals in hi last two matches, Madueke has proven himself, not by complaining to the manager, but by actually showing what he can do on the pitch.

Meanwhile, speaking after the game, Madueke said: “It was still a good Chelsea performance. Credit needs to be given to Luton, they make it very difficult. We defended very well for 70 minutes and then came a bit unstuck.

“As the game wears on maybe a bit of fatigue kicks in. Credit to all the boys, three points going into the new year is what we set out to achieve.

“Whenever I shift to my right I just try and hit it as cleanly as possible. I feel like they were scared of me coming inside so I thought I would shift it and hit it clean.”
