Pochettino compares Jackson to Chelsea greats, Drogba and Hasselbaink

Mauricio Pochettino has called for more patience with summer arrival, Nicolas Jackson.

Jackson has scored seven goals for Chelsea since joining from Villarreal — missing way more open chances than that amount.

The 22-year-old has been criticised by some fans, who feel he should be doing more, but Pochettino says he hasn’t done so badly when compared to ex-Chelsea forwards, Didier Drogba and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

“We are putting too much focus on Nicolas Jackson and we need to give him time. The fans were amazing with him,” Pochettino said ahead of the Luton game, as quoted by the Evening Standard.

“For sure, we need to give him time but he already scored. It is not that he doesn’t score.

“If we check in the past about how different strikers arrive in England and perform in the first season, we are now months into it, and he has scored goals like Didier Drogba or Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

“Nicolas Jackson is young, coming from Spain after not playing so much. He is a very good prospect with potential but we are also playing for Chelsea.

“It is not the same as playing for a different club.”

While Pochettino might be right in comparing Jackson to Drogba, many will agree that it is an aberration to compare the 22-year-old with Hasselbaink, who netted a very impressive 26 goals in his debut season with Chelsea.
