TalkSPORT pundit, Sam Matterface has expressed his dismay and surprise over reports that Conor Gallagher could be sold by Chelsea in January.

Gallagher is said to be on the shortlist of players that could be sold to raise money for Chelsea’s transfer business in the winter transfer window, despite having an amazing season so far.

The Blues have been a much-better side with Gallagher in the team this season, with the 23-year-old missing just the game against Manchester United as a result of a suspension. The midfielder has also become a fan favourite, which makes Matterface question the rumours of his potential sale.

The pundit said on talkSPORT: “It’s ludicrous, really, isn’t it? It’s ludicrous to think that this is a player who Pochettino obviously thinks is essential to the team because as soon as the rumours started to swirl, even in the August transfer window that he might be sold elsewhere, he made him the captain.

“He’s kept him as the captain in the absence of Reece James. He’s always worn the armband. Clearly he wants him to stay, clearly he thinks he’s important. So why on earth are the ownership now trying to or being prepared to sanction the sale?”
