Mauricio Pochettino has broken the record for the youngest Chelsea side to ever be fielded in a Premier League game.
With Reece James out injured, and the likes of Raheem Sterling and Cole Palmer suspended, the Argentine was forced to settle for a very young starting XI for the win against Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
With an average age of 23 years and 21 days, the Chelsea starting XI that executed the game at home to Palace is the youngest in the history of the club in the league.
26-year-old Christopher Nkunku was the oldest player in the starting XI, while Malo Gusto was the youngest, at 20 years old.
Pochettino made five changes to the side that lost to Wolves on Sunday, with Thiago Silva, Armando Broja, Lesley Ugochukwu, Sterling and Palmer all failing to start. Instead, the coach gave the nod to Mykhailo Mudryk, Ian Maatsen, Moises Caicedo, Benoit Badiashile and Christopher Nkunku.
Chelsea’s starting XI on Wednesday night is also the eighth youngest in the history of the Premier League, and the youngest in the division since the Manchester United side that beat Crystal Palace 1-0 back in 2017.
