Thiago Silva has admitted that he wasn’t always a fan of the English Premier League.
The 39-year-old joined Chelsea from Paris Saint-Germain in 2020, and has made 100 league appearances for the Blues since then.
Silva has however revealed that he wasn’t always keen on playing in the Premier League because he didn’t think they played attractive football, until he saw what Pep Guardiola did with Manchester City.
The Brazilian defender told ESPN: “I wouldn’t have imagined that I would come to play in the Premier League one day, it was a football that I didn’t like, to be honest. I thought there were a lot of aerial balls, getting up there, fighting there. Despite having impulsion and adapting, I didn’t think I would come to play here.”
“One of those responsible (for me to play in the Premier League) was Guardiola, his team playing more. Not that (the others) copy, but they try to play (the same way), it’s beautiful football to watch.
“From that moment on I was interested, I saw more at home, Chelsea came and I didn’t think twice. Living this moment, 39 years, 100 games in the Premier League, I’m very proud of my career so far. I’m very proud of everything I’ve experienced.”
