Chelsea great, Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has shared his thoughts on Christopher Nkunku after watching the 26-year-old against Crystal Palace.
Nkunku finally started his first game for Chelsea— playing as a supporting striker for Nicolas Jackson, who was Mauricio Pochettino’s preferred man upfront.
The Frenchman had to play Chelsea’s last two games from the bench, and one of them was the 2-1 loss to Wolves on Sunday, where he scored a late consolation goal for the Blues.
Nkunku was very sharp against Palace, and even had a couple of great chances that didn’t quite fall well for him. The ex-RB Leipzig forward particularly had a one-one opportunity with the Palace goalkeeper in the first, but somehow, he mis-kicked the ball, and lost the chance.
Hasselbaink watched the game against Palace with Prime Video, and later said of Nkunku: “He’s brilliant. He gives them something different. He gives them calmness. Give me the ball and I will get something going… It looks like they’re getting something going (Nkunku and Jackson)… He’s got a lot of quality.”
Nkunku was later taken off after 70 minutes of action, and will now be in line to make another start when Chelsea play Luton this Saturday.
