Mauricio Pochettino has moved to shield Nicolas Jackson from any sort of criticism after Chelsea’s latest defeat.
Jackson was involved, as the Blues were beaten 2-1 by Wolverhampton, although many will feel that the scoreline could have been different if the Senegal international went to the Molineux with his scoring boots on.
Chelsea did create a handful of chances, and really should have scored, particularly through Jackson, Armando Broja and Raheem Sterling, who were presented with some clear opportunities at goal.
In the end, it was the home side that managed to take all three points, despite Christopher Nkunku scoring in added time to cut the deficit to 2-1.
Jackson has been heavily criticised for not being clinical enough in front of goal, even though he has already netted seven times in his first season with the Blues— which Pochettino reckons is a decent haul for someone of his age.
“When you compare Jackson, it is about expectations, when you look at other strikers who arrived at his age and the goals they scored he is performing,” the Chelsea boss told reporters after his side’s loss.
“We cannot blame him.”
Jackson was signed from Villarreal in the Spanish La Liga over the summer.
