Chelsea were defeated at the Molineux, as the Blues took on Wolves on Sunday afternoon.
The Blues, looking to make it three wins in three outings, made a few changes to the team that beat Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup quarter-final on Tuesday.
Lesley Ugochukwu was paired up in midfield with Conor Gallagher, while Cole Palmer was deployed as a right-winger. Moises Caicedo was absent through what appeared to be an injury, with Enzo Fernandez also failing to feature for health reasons.
Chelsea dominated proceedings in the early exchanges, but never quite looked like scoring until late in the first half when Raheem Sterling pinged a fine ball to an unmarked Nicolas Jackson in the Wolves 18-yard area, but the Senegal international couldn’t convert the chance after poorly controlling the initial ball.
Chelsea had another situation with three players against goalkeeper Jose Sa, but Raheem Sterling selfishly tried to go alone, thus missing the chance.
Wolves were a much-better side in the second period, and took the lead after 51 minutes when Mario Lemina guided a Sarabia corner into the bottom left corner of Petrovic’s goalpost.
The hosts had a few more chances— mostly due to some schoolboy errors from Chelsea, and eventually made it 2-0 after three minutes of added time to put the result beyond salvaging for Chelsea. Second half substitute, Matt Doherty found the net for Gary O’Neil’s side after a poor clearance from Benoit Badiashile, who was also a substitute.
Christopher Nkunku did pull one back for Chelsea in the 96th minute, but it was already too late, and Mauricio Pochettino could only watch, as his boys succumbed to yet another loss on the road.
