Paul Merson has expressed doubt that Chelsea can return from their trip to Wolves on Sunday with maximum points.

The Blues will take part in history on Christmas Eve when they take on Wolves at the Molineux, and become one of the first two teams to play a Premier League game on December 24 in the last 28 years.

Chelsea have had some decent results in the last week, including a 2-0 win against Sheffield United, which was then followed up with a Carabao Cup quarter-final triumph over Newcastle United on Tuesday— and should go into Sunday’s game feeling a little confident.

As for Wolves, they lost their last game 3-0 to West Ham, and despite Merson admitting it was the worst game he’s seen them play this season, the former Arsenal man has gone for a 2-2 draw as the outcome of their clash against Chelsea later this weekend.

“I thought Wolves were poor last weekend against West Ham. That’s the worst they’ve looked all season,” Merson told Sportskeeda.

“You never know what you’re going to get with Chelsea…Despite Chelsea’s morale boosting performance against Newcastle in the Carabao Cup, I am going for a draw in this one as Chelsea are still suspect defensively.

“Prediction: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-2 Chelsea.”
