Ex-Chelsea and Aston Villa midfielder, Steve Sidwell has delivered a rather harsh judgement on Chelsea pair, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
Enzo and Caicedo arrived at Stamford Bridge in mega-money deals, costing Chelsea a combined £226.8m.
The pair have certainly given their hearts to playing for Chelsea since they joined the club, but there appears to be a general feeling among some fans and pundits that they’re yet to justify the hefty price tags they carried.
Conor Gallagher has more often than not, received the plaudits for being the engine room of Chelsea’s midfield, leading to many questioning whether Enzo and Caicedo are truly worth the amount of money that was paid for them.
Former Fulham star, Sidwell is certainly among those that think the pair were overpriced, as according to him, they don’t play as though they’re worth that much.
While speaking recently on The Peter Crouch podcast, Sidwell said of Enzo and Caicedo: “I look at it and I think with Chelsea the inflated prices have put more pressure on individuals. Caicedo is not a £100 million player. He’s a very good player but he’s not £100 million. Enzo, again, £100 million – he’s not a £100million player. Your two central midfielder players cost £200 million. They are playing as if they are worth £30 million.”
Meanwhile, Caicedo has acknowledged that he may not have been performing satisfactorily at Chelsea yet, and recently promised to deliver his best soon. The 22-year-old said in an interview (per Fabrizio Romano): “The old Moises will be back and will continue to triumph and give a lot of joy to Chelsea.
“I’m calm because I knew moments like this would come and I need to remain mentally strong”.
“Pochettino always supported me.”
