Pundits, Jamie O’Hara and Jason Cundy are in agreement that Chelsea received a favourable Carabao Cup semi-final draw after the Blues were paired with Middlesbrough in the last four stage of the tournament.
The other pairing of the semi-final is Liverpool and Fulham, who will also be playing each other for a place in the finals later next year.
Chelsea had to fight off a difficult opponent in Newcastle United to get as far as they have in the Carabao Cup this season, and both O’Hara and Cundy believe that this could genuinely be a chance for Mauricio Pochettino’s men to win their first trophy since 2021.
O’Hara told talkSPORT about Chelsea’s draw with Middlesbrough: “You (Chelsea) are basically in the final. You’ve got Middlesbrough away from home in the first leg, then you’ve got them at home in the second leg. Jammy, so jammy.”
Cundy responded: “In cup competitions sometimes you need the draw to do you a favour. It’s done us a favour… It’s the one you wanted but I’ve seen Chelsea this season. I’m not counting any chickens. I’m not taking anything for granted. We should win. We are still unconvincing.”
