Levi Colwill has confirmed that his halftime substitution during Chelsea’s Carabao Cup victory against Newcastle United was purely tactical, and nothing more.
The 20-year-old was hauled off at the break, with the Magpies leading the tie 1-0. Some fans had wondered if the reason was because of an injury, but Mauricio Pochettino later revealed it was a tactical decision, and Colwill has now confirmed the manager’s statement on the issue.
“Yeah, I think so,” Colwill said, on whether the choice was tactical.
“It obviously worked; winning the game on pens and obviously coming back at the same time. I’m really happy for the team.”
“Honestly my position is a center-half but I’m more than happy to help the team anyway I can,” Colwill added on playing left-back.
“I’ve always said I’m learning in that position, so I cannot complain.”
