Mykhailo Mudryk was one of Chelsea’s heroes on Tuesday night, as Chelsea moved into the last four of the Carabao Cup.
The Ukrainian has not really been at his best this season, but he has certainly scored some important goals.
On Tuesday, with Chelsea trailing Newcastle 1-0 at Stamford Bridge, Mudryk came on as a substitute to score a last-gasp equaliser, and send the tie to a penalty shootout. It was however, Kieran Trippier’s error that made it relatively easier for Mudryk.
The Newcastle right-back had attempted to head the ball back to his goalkeeper after a Chelsea cross, but he miscalculated, and ended up heading it inches away from him, not knowing that Mudryk was just behind him. The winger then quickly pounced on the mistake, and made it 1-1 for the Blues.
Trippier also missed from the spot during the resulting penalty shootout, before Matt Ritchie had his own effort saved by Chelsea goalie, Djordje Petrovic.
Trippier’s teammates immediately went to console him after the game, with Mudryk also taking to his Instagram story to encourage the Englishman.
After sharing an image of the two of them from the game, Mudryk added a message that reads: “Kieran, I just wanna say to you: stay strong. Sometimes s*** happens but I think you are [a] strong footballer, no matter what.”
