Chelsea have made it to the semi finals of the Carabao Cup after a hard-fought victory against Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night.
The Blues went down to an early Newcastle lead after Callum Wilson took advantage of a horrendous error by Badiashile to score his eighth goal of the season.
From there, it was mostly all-Chelsea, who had numerous opportunities to score for the rest of the first half, but the Magpies’ defence was just too stubborn to beat.
Chelsea’s dominance continued in the second period, with Newcastle pinned in their own half for large spells, but it wasn’t until added time that Chelsea got level through Mykhailo Mudryk, who only came on as a late replacement for Raheem Sterling.
Mauricio Pochettino’s men also won the ensuing penalty shootout 5-3, with Djordje Petrovic pulling off a stunning save to deny Matt Ritchie from the spot after Kieran Trippier had fired his own effort wide of the Serbian’s post.
Chelsea will now have to wait to see who their semi final opponents will be, with Liverpool and West Ham set to play on Wednesday.
