Newcastle boss, Eddie Howe has warned Chelsea that Cup games are important to his team.

The Magpies will face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night after previously beating Manchester City and Manchester United in the tournament.

Chelsea have had a relatively easier run in the competition so far, and come up against a Newcastle team that they already lost to this season.

While previewing the game, Howe told a press conference: “The two draws we had previously to this one were probably as tricky as you can get. We’ve played City, United and now Chelsea.

“The beauty of the two previous, is that it showed we can raise our game against top teams in a cup competition.

“We made great memories last year and we want to create more memories.

“We’ve seen the reward that you can get.

“The build-up to the final was incredible and seeing our supporters and how many went to London, but it was devastating not to get over the line. It has helped us this year, we know the prize if we get through.”

He added: “I don’t know if it becomes more important, as the importance is always there.

“Chelsea are dangerous opponents, they have a vastly experienced manager.

“The semi-finals, both games, were very special [last year]. After Southampton away you could hear the supporters and what it meant. The dream, of course didn’t turn to reality, but maybe this year.”
