Conor Gallagher has claimed that Chelsea’s 2-0 win against Sheffield United was a very important one, judging by the team’s recent form.

The Blues had lost back to back matches against Manchester United and Everton, and needed to return to winning ways.

Against Sheffield, it wasn’t easy at first due to the compact style of defending exhibited by Chris Wilder’s side, but ultimately, the Blues came out triumphant, and will now look ahead to their Carabao Cup quarter-final meeting with Newcastle United on Tuesday.

Gallagher said: “It feels really good!

“I think it was really important coming into the game to get the three points and to show a good performance.

“We did that and hopefully the victory now will give us the confidence to build on going forward.

“We had to be patient to get that breakthrough and I think you have to give credit to the opposition.

“Sheffield United made it tough for us and they were really solid defensively, especially in the first half. There have been many games like that this season, where we’ve struggled to break teams down so we had to remain patient.

“Once we got the goal, I think we were in control from that point and in the end I’d consider it a really professional performance.”
