Mauricio Pochettino has heaped praise on Cole Palmer after his ‘Man of the Match’ performance during Saturday’s 2-0 win against Sheffield United.

Palmer scored one and assisted another for the Blues, who left it until the second half to turn up against Chris Wilder’s resilient men.

The 21-year-old struggled just a bit to find spaces in-between the tight Sheffield defence during the first half, but once the second period started, he was a completely different player, scoring in the 59th minute, before providing the assist for Jackson’s goal just a few minutes later.

Pochettino was very happy with what he saw from the £42m ex-Manchester City star, and had some good things to say about him after the final whistle.

He told BBC Match of the Day: “For me he’s a playmaker, a player who can link the team. He’s also a player with the capacity to score goals and give assists. The contribution of Cole Palmer from day one has been massive.”

Palmer now has six goals and five assists from his first 16 Chelsea games across all competitions. That is certainly not bad for a player who only moved to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
