Chelsea beat Sheffield United 2-0 on Saturday afternoon to reach 10th on the Premier League table.
The Blues, fresh off disappointing back to back defeats, needed to provide a positive response against the Blades, and that did they do, thanks to two second-half goals from Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson.
The first half was dominated by Chelsea, who had more than 70% of the ball, but as has often been the case this season, Chelsea struggled to break down an organised Sheffield backline.
Mykhailo Mudryk, Nicolas Jackson and Raheem Sterling were among those that came close to scoring in the first period, but they just couldn’t convert, and it wasn’t until after the break that Mauricio Pochettino’s men broke the deadlock.
Cole Palmer was the provider of the first goal for Chelsea— smashing a fine cutback from former Manchester City teammate, Sterling into the Sheffield in the 59th minute, before grabbing an assist moments later when he laid a fine low pass across Wes Foderingham’s goal for Jackson to tap in and make it 2-0 for the Blues.
Chelsea will now look forward to playing Newcastle United in the EFL Cup quarter finals on Tuesday, and hope to progress to the semis.
