Chelsea are unlikely to hand Thiago Silva a new contract, despite the Brazilian impressing during his time at the club.

The defender has spent three years at Stamford Bridge already, and did help the Blues to their second UEFA Champions League trophy back in 2021.

The Athletic claims that despite his great displays and leadership skills, the powers that be at Stamford Bridge are not considering renewing Silva’s current contract, and the player is expected to leave at the end of the season when his ongoing deal runs out.

The centre back is already 39, and with 40 not too far from now, there is a sense that he will no longer fit into the ongoing project at Chelsea.

Brazilian club, Fluminense have made no secret of their admiration for Silva, and may be waiting to come in and make a swoop for him in the coming months.
