Arsenal legend, Ian Wright has heaped praise on Cole Palmer, describing the 21-year-old as a ‘breath-taking’ player after watching him for nearly half of the 2023-24 campaign.

Palmer joined Chelsea from Manchester City for about £40m over the summer, and has immediately established himself as the main player in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.

Eyebrows were certainly raised after the Blues paid that amount of money for a player that could barely break into the first team at City, but his performances for the Londoners have certainly proved that the move was the right one, as he now has five goals and four assists from his opening 15 matches.

Palmer was outstanding against Everton on Sunday, despite his side losing the match 2-0, and while reflecting on the game, Wright had positive things to say about the England international.

Wright said on The Wrighty’s House podcast: “Apart from Cole Palmer, who they got out from the Under-23s at City and he’s at Chelsea as the leading man says everything you need to know about Chelsea in the current climate.

“And he is somebody that is like unbelievable, he’s breath-taking how he’s come into a club of that size as a player that had played a handful of games for City.

“To come in and he’s now leading the charge at Chelsea, they now need to be starting to think about building the team around him.”
