Sky Sports pundit, Micah Richards has claimed that Chelsea is missing something in their game at the moment.
The former Manchester City defender has already admitted that there is a need for the Blues to go into the transfer market and try to sign another forward in January, but beyond that, he also thinks that there’s an issue with Chelsea’s midfield.
Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez are Chelsea’s deep midfield pairing under Mauricio Pochettino, but the two players appear to be struggling, despite costing the club more than a combined £220m.
According to Richards, the two players are not playing like they know what they’re doing, and there appears to be a missing link between the midfield and defence in Pochettino’s side.
He told Monday Night Club: “With Enzo and Caicedo in midfield at times it doesn’t look like they know what to do. Are they both going? Who is the defensive one? Fernandez wants to play a little bit more offensively, leaving big gaps in midfield.
“Well, they have Lavia as well, so I don’t say no but I am saying what they are trying to do now [isn’t working]. The cohesion between defence and midfield isn’t working.”
Chelsea have quite a good number of other players that can provide some competition to Enzo and Caicedo in midfield, including Romeo Lavia and Lesley Ugochukwu, but most of these guys are currently injured, so at the moment, Pochettino is stuck with them, and must find a way to make them play with better cohesion in order for his side to start performing better as well.
