21-year-old player now seeking to leave Stamford Bridge

Ian Maatsen is seeking a move away from Chelsea in January after failing to nail a regular place under Mauricio Pochettino, reports claim.

The Dutchman was close to joining Burnley last summer, with a £31.5m deal, which included an initial loan move, but he turned down the opportunity.

Football.london now claims that Maatsen is eager to leave Stamford Bridge, and wouldn’t mind another loan move.

The only challenge with the player leaving now is the FIFA restriction on the number of players clubs can send on loan outside of the country they operate in. The number is currently pegged at seven, and Chelsea have already sent out that many players on loan deals outside of England.

The implication of this is that Maatsen will now have to either stay at Chelsea and fight for a place in the starting XI, or seek a permanent transfer away from the club.
