Chelsea have been named the ‘worst team’ of 2023 by the Telegraph, as Mauricio Pochettino’s men continue to struggle this year.
According to the outlet, the decision was arrived at, after they looked at the number of points amassed throughout 2023 by all the teams who have spent it in the division.
This means that teams like Leicester, Leeds United, and Southampton were not considered, as they were relegated at the end of last season. Premier League new boys, Luton Town, as well as returnees, Burnley and Sheffield United are also not a part of the ranking.
Out of the 17 remaining teams, Chelsea are ranked 15th on the table, but only ahead of Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest by a single point after playing a game more. So the Blues have 39 points from 39 games, while Palace and Forest have 38, each from 38 matches.
This, according to the paper, makes Chelsea the worst team of the year in the EPL, while further up the table, you have Manchester City leading with 86 points, followed by Aston Villa (78), Arsenal (77), and Liverpool (76).
