TalkSPORT pundit, Gabby Agbonlahor has reacted angrily to comments credited to Mauricio Pochettino after Chelsea’s Sunday defeat at the hands of Everton.
The Blues were beaten 2-0 at the Goodison Park, although they had far more possession of the ball than the Toffees.
After the game, a disappointed Pochettino was quoted as telling the media that Chelsea would need to assess the way things have gone this season, and possibly go into the transfer market to make some more additions to their squad when the January window opens.
The Argentine told Sky Sports: “We need to be more aggressive. Then it’s a massive assessment and when the transfer window opens, we will see what we can do. I don’t say if I am going to ask for more or less players. It’s to see if the perception matches the reality. We are missing something. We need to improve our reality.”
Those comments didn’t go down well with ex-Aston Villa forward, Agbonlahor, who said he couldn’t believe what Pochettino was asking for after Chelsea already spent a fortune signing players in the last few months.
He told talkSPORT: “When I saw that quote, I thought it was a joke. Like when you have a bit of banter with a reporter, ‘we have to get some more players’. What are you talking about? The amount of players they went and bought. They’ve got [Christopher] Nkunku to come back from injury. [Romeo] Lavia has got to come back. You can’t just keep going it’s not going well I need a transfer window. Get more out of these players.”
While we get Agbonlahor’s point, we can’t help agreeing that if Pochettino thinks signing more players will help his cause at Chelsea, he just has to be backed, sad as it is.
The team hasn’t done well at all this season, and fans are getting more impatient by the day. We however believe that Pochettino needs to be allowed to get his own players this time, so there’ll be no one to blame but him if things don’t improve in the near future.
