Manchester City legend Micah Richards has stated that he agrees with Mauricio Pochettino’s claim that Chelsea need to sign more players in January, especially in forward positions.

The Blues lost two games in a row last week, including defeats to Manchester United and Everton away from home.

In the loss to the Toffees on Sunday, Chelsea bossed possession, claiming an impressive 71% of the ball, but after the final whistle, it was the home team that ended up with all three points, thanks to two second-half goals from Abdoulaye Doucoure and Lewis Dobbin.

The Blues’ two strikers, Nicolas Jackson and Armando Broja both took part in the match, but they couldn’t find a way to put the ball into the net for their team.

After the game, Pochettino, in his post-match comments, said he needed to sign more players to help the team get better, and while some people found what he said surprising, Richards agreed and admitted there was a need for the Blues to go into the transfer market and try to find another source of goals, despite the huge amount of money they have already spent.

He told Monday Night Club: “I agree with him. I know it sounds ridiculous. I know they have spent a lot of money already. But you can’t have 71% possession and not win the game. You are getting into good areas and they can’t finish.

“Jackson looked so good in pre-season, I could see what he was trying to do, link-up was good. Sterling looked like he was playing really well. But they have nobody up there with a clinical edge at this moment in time.

“You need a striker who is going to put the ball in the back of the net. The approach play isn’t bad, I can see what Poch is trying to do, at times they have played really well but they don’t come out with the right result.”
