Former Chelsea player, Gus Poyet has provided his thoughts on the Blues season so far.
Chelsea are currently 10th on the Premier League table after 15 matches – in a season that’s been filled with inconsistencies.
One of Chelsea’s worst games of the season so far came in midweek when they took on Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The scores ended 2-1 in favour of the home side, but things could have been far worse for Chelsea, with United registering 28 shots at goal during the match.
To be fair to Mauricio Pochettino and his side though, they have had some positive moments this season, such as the 4-1 win against Tottenham and the 4-4 draw at home against Manchester City. Chelsea are also in the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup, where they will now face Newcastle next.
When asked to rate his former side’s season so far, Poyet felt generous, and went for a 6/10 rating.
He told FourFourTwo: “I would go six. I cannot go higher, because of all the expenditure, you would think Chelsea should be higher in the table, but this is no criticism of Pochettino, I know how difficult it is for the coach.”
Chelsea’s biggest priority this season is returning to Champions League football. At the moment, things don’t look great for the Blues though, as Pochettino’s men currently sit 11 points behind fourth-placed Man City, and will need to do a lot better to catch up with the top four teams.
