Levi Colwill has claimed that VAR appears to have an agenda against him, following the incidents that took place in his last two outings for Chelsea.

Colwill was involved as Chelsea beat Brighton 3-2 with 10 men on Sunday, before also playing a part in Wednesday’s 2-1 loss against Manchester United.

The defender, who recently returned from injury, found himself in controversial situations in the last two games, with VAR having to step in on both occasions.

The first incident happened against Brighton when he was initially wrongly accused of handling the ball in the penalty area, before the decision was overturned upon further review.

The other incident took place against Manchester United in midweek. The 20-year-old went to the ground, as Scott McTominay netted the hosts’ second of the night from an Alejandro Garnacho Cross. He however protested that he was fouled in the build-up to the goal, but his pleas fell on deaf ears, as it was allowed to stand after a VAR review.

Speaking to the official Chelsea website after the game at Old Trafford, Colwill said: “VAR has something against me right now, I don’t know what I’ve done to them.

“Against Brighton they tried to give a pen, and then when I got pulled [by McTominay] they didn’t give anything.

“If I had pulled him like that they would have given a penalty. It is what it is.

“It was a frustrating night. We had chances that if we’d taken would have made the game quite different, but it’s part of the game and we’ll move on from it come the weekend against Everton.”
