Alan Shearer was disappointed with Nicolas Jackson’s performance for Chelsea during Wednesday’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United.

The Blues were outplayed at Old Trafford, with Cole Palmer’s 45th minute goal the only positive from the game for Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

To be fair, Chelsea did create some impressive chances, especially in the first half, and could have scored three, but they managed to miss them all.

Nicolas Jackson, who led the line for the Blues was again unable to put away his opportunities when they came to him, and now, Shearer has criticised him for taking too many touches when he should have just strike the ball into the post.

Shearer’s comments follow a missed big chance in the first half, when Raheem Sterling squared the ball for Jackson to simply tap into the United goal, but instead of shooting immediately, the 22-year-old chose to take one touch too many.

He said: “I disagree with Ally. I think it’s a decent pass from Sterling. There is no need for him to let that ball run across him and hit that first time. We said about it before the game about him taking too many touches. That has to be one touch and in the back of the net.

“Forget about taking a touch when you are seven yards out and in the middle of the goal. Why? You don’t need it. For me that’s an incredible chance.”
