Chelsea beaten by McTominay double at Old Trafford

It was a disappointing outing for Chelsea on Wednesday night, as the Blues were beaten 2-1 at Old Trafford by Manchester United.

The Blues struggled to cope against the high-press of United, and were forced into making too many mistakes by the hosts from the opening stages of the match.

Bruno Fernandes was presented with an opportunity to put his side in front from the spot after Enzo was penalised for stamping his boots on Antony, but the Portuguese missed his effort, as Robert Sanchez dived in the right direction.

Scott McTominay eventually gave the Red Devils their lead in the 19th minute of play, thanks to some horrible defending at the Chelsea end. The Scotland international fired a low shot into Robert Sanchez’s goal after a poorly cleared ball fell on his feet.

Chelsea had a handful of chances to score, but they missed them all, most-notably through Mykhailo Mudryk and Nicolas Jackson, and it wasn’t until the 45th minute that the Blues got an equaliser after a fine solo effort from Cole Palmer.

The second half saw Chelsea completely pegged in their own half for most of the 45 minutes, and their recklessness was duly punished with 21 minutes of normal time remaining— McTominay again, heading into the left of Sanchez’s post after getting on the end of Alejandro Garnacho’s cross with no one really marking him.

The result leaves Chelsea stuck in 10th, while Man United are now up to 6th, with eight points separating them from Mauricio Pochettino’s men.

  1. having Jackson and sterling in that team and more in the 1st eleven, makes one wonder if the coach knows his job well..How on earth can a football coach(not Poche) give the armband to Colwill while you have Silva n Enzo in the team???
Very useless coach..It’s high time this clueless coach hits the exit door
