Premier League legend, Alan Shearer has praised Enzo Fernandez for his display during Chelsea’s 3-2 win against Brighton & Hove Albion earlier this week.
The Blues fought hard against a late Brighton comeback to pick up all three points in their Stamford Bridge clash on Sunday.
It was just the second home win of the season for Mauricio Pochettino’s men, who had Conor Gallagher sent off after a double booking before half-time.
In the absence of Gallagher who was captain on the occasion, Enzo and Moises Caicedo stepped up to run the midfield for Chelsea.
The Argentine also scored two of Chelsea’s goals, including one from the penalty spot after Mykhailo Mudryk was fouled towards the end of the second period.
While speaking to the official Premier League website after the game, Shearer praised Enzo’s involvement for Chelsea, especially for the character he showed to step up and convert the penalty.
The Premier League all-time leading goalscorer said of the 22-year-old: “Delivered a proper No 8 performance and showed great character to step up and convert the penalty that ultimately won the match.”
Enzo is expected to be involved when Chelsea travel to take on Manchester United on Wednesday, although Gallagher’s red card means Pochettino will have to find a replacement for the tireless midfielder who is now suspended for the match.
